TERRACOTTA

Terracotta (Italian: terra cotta, 'baked earth' = baked clay) is porous, unglazed earthenware of red baking clay. It is applied in various ways, such as flower pots and cheap crockery. It is also sometimes used for statues.
Pottery is the term for pots, bowls, cups and jars, intended as crockery and tiles from made of baked clay. Pottery is made of clay or loam, often found along rivers. These are baked after drying and become hard. The raw material will not be softened by water and will not fall apart. Because of the high temperature baking, the clay particles are sintered together. Good clay for these products is: kaolin (China clay), fine white clay.
